The Eye-Fi Explore card utilizes WPS (Wi-Fi Positioning System) based on Skyhook Wireless technology. When you Eye-Fi Explore Card is on, it scans the area for Wi-Fi routers SSID’s and records their signal strength. This information is passed on to the Skyhook Wireless service where the information is processed so it can deliver a latitude and longitude location back to the Eye-Fi Service. Once received from Skyhook, the location information is then added to a photo’s EXIF metadata by the Eye-Fi Service.

If the location of you home or your wireless router provided by the Skyhook Wireless service and your Eye-Fi Explore card is incorrect, you can add information about your Wi-Fi router’s location and update the Skyhook Wireless database. In order to do this you will need to know your wireless router’s MAC address. For more information please use the Skyhook Wireless Submit an Access Point page.

NOTE: The Skyhook Wireless Submit an Access Point page has several text fields you will need to complete. Be sure to scroll below the map to see all of the fields. Once your provide your router information it may take 4 or more weeks for Skyhook to update their database.
