Can an Eye-Fi card upload photos from Wi-Fi hot spots?

Print

Yes. Click here to to view a map that illustrates the locales of Wayport hotspots that support Eye-Fi Explore and Eye-Fi Cards with the Hotspot Access service.

Eye-Fi Cards enabled with the Hotspot Access service include access to certian Wayport and open hotspots. Eye-Fi is working directly with hotspot provider Wayport to offer Wi-Fi access to over 10,000 hotspot locations, including major hotels, airports, most McDonald’s restaurants and other locales.

If you want to be informed about your uploads, you can choose to receive status updates from Eye-Fi as either email, tweets or SMS text messages. These messages will let you know when your Eye-Fi Card has connected to a supported hotspot network and is uploading and will also let you know when your upload has completed. Like all Eye-Fi uploads, if you leave the location before your upload has finished, your Eye-Fi Card will pick up right where it left off the next time you’re in a supported location.

Eye-Fi Explore, Explore Video and Pro cards each include 1 year of Wayport Hotspot Access.  Users of these cards will be able to renew Hotspot Access for $14.99 per year after the first year.

Note: Many Wi-Fi “hot spots” or public wireless networks require the user to log in via an initial web browser “splash screen”. Eye-Fi Cards cannot currently connect to these types of public networks. Additionally Wayport became part of ATT in late 2008, Eye-Fi Explore Cards will only connect to hotspots that were part of the Wayport system prior to late 2008. This includes McDonalds, Hertz, and certain resturants and hotels.
